US warns Israel against blocking Trump Gaza plan

A senior US official said at a White House briefing Thursday that President Donald Trump would be “very, very disappointed” if Israel did not advance his Gaza reconstruction plan after Hamas approved a disarmament proposal.

The warning, reported by The Times of Israel, came shortly after Trump announced that Hamas had approved the plan put forward by his Board of Peace. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the proposal did not meet Israel’s demand for full demilitarization of Gaza in exchange for any withdrawals from the Strip.

“We’re not asking Israel to do anything that isn’t in the 20-point plan that they agreed to initially,” the senior US official said. The official said the administration wanted Israel to keep to “the original agreement that got their hostages home and ended the war” and intended to hold Israel to its commitments.

The official said Israel had been skeptical that Hamas would disarm, but said Hamas had “come through by getting the bodies out and the hostages.” The official also criticized Israeli objections to including Qatar and Turkey on the Board of Peace, saying they had been essential partners with Egypt in keeping the ceasefire together.

A Board of Peace official told that Hamas’s approval triggered a 14-day period to finalize the timeline for later steps in the disarmament framework. Another Board of Peace official said possible timelines for full disarmament ranged from roughly 200 to 350 days, while cautioning that “the timelines really depend on how each phase is implemented.”

The report said the Board of Peace would then begin holding Israel to commitments from the October 2025 Gaza ceasefire, including curbs on strikes and humanitarian aid benchmarks. It said Israel would be expected to withdraw to the original Yellow Line, which left it in control of roughly 53 percent of Gaza, while further withdrawals would depend on Hamas handing over weapons.
