Iran's IRGC said Wednesday it hit U.S. military facilities, including Ali Al-Salem base in Kuwait, in retaliation for what it described as a U.S. attack on southern Iran, Iran Press reported.
The IRGC announcement said retaliatory strikes targeted U.S. military facilities in Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain and Erbil. It linked the action to a U.S. strike in Sirik, southern Iran, that it said targeted a wedding ceremony.
The article said the U.S. army began attacking residential areas in southern and southwestern Iran early Wednesday, leading to the “martyrdom” of 12 people, including a child, and injuring more than 70 others.
For Ali Al-Salem base, the IRGC said its Ground Forces launched a coordinated missile and drone attack. It said the operation destroyed the command post of American forces, destroyed drone hangars and deployment ramps, damaged several drones and caused casualties among American personnel.
In a message to the people of Kuwait, the IRGC framed the strikes as an effort to assist in “cleansing” the region of the U.S. presence, which it characterized as an occupation of Islamic lands.
