Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said Friday that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to create a ballistic-missile shelter in an underground parking garage near busy Tokyo Station.
The shelter is intended to protect residents from a ballistic missile attack, Nikkei Asia reported.
“The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has plans to create a shelter in an underground parking garage nearby busy Tokyo Station to protect residents from a ballistic missile attack, the governor said Friday,” the report said.
The parking garage was chosen partly because of its proximity to Tokyo Station.
City officials are seeking to strengthen defenses against the threat of North Korean launches.
