AI's Architects: The Next Era of Human History is Here
Friday, 7 August 2026 10:29

Leading figures in artificial intelligence claim their work has reached a point previously only imagined in science fiction: the singularity, where machines begin to drive their own evolution, Axios reported.
If these industry leaders are correct, humanity could be on the cusp of the most significant technological shift in its history. This marks the beginning of an "intelligence explosion" that may reshape civilization at a pace beyond human comprehension or control.
Google recently unsettled the technology industry by announcing a major reorganization of the team that developed its contemporary AI capabilities. The company's leaders have suggested that artificial general intelligence (AGI) is now a tangible goal.
"We are now, like, in the singularity," said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on the "Relentless" podcast last month. "I've been waiting for this my whole life."
The industry has not yet realized complete "recursive self-improvement" (RSI), the stage where AI can consistently help create more powerful versions of itself with little human intervention. Humans are still responsible for setting research objectives, confirming results, and managing the vast computing resources needed to train the most advanced models. However, the components of this self-improving loop are starting to come together.
