Thailand’s Internal Security Operations Command reported 51 violent incidents across Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala on Saturday night, the Bangkok Post reported, including arson, bombings, public shootings, property destruction and state vehicle theft.
As of midnight, almost half of the incidents were in Narathiwat, where 22 attacks were reported. Two women, aged 45 and 46, were injured when a bomb detonated on Ban Tham Niap Road in tambon Lamphu of Muang district; one suffered ruptures in her chest and left arm, and the other had a severe wound to her left thigh.
Narathiwat incidents included bombings, public shootings, state vehicle theft and the torching of buildings, power poles and a backhoe. The tambon Bo Ngo administration organisation office in Rangae district was torched, and a state-owned pickup truck stolen from the office was later found burnt-out.
Pattani recorded 11 violent incidents in Yarang, Yaring, Nong Chik, Sai Buri, Thung Yang Daeng and Khok Pho districts, with no injuries reported. In Yaring, attackers bombed a 7-Eleven store, left suspicious objects, fired gunshots skywards and set fire to tyres; in Sai Buri, a new municipal office in tambon Taluban was set ablaze.
Yala recorded 18 incidents, including eight in Than To district, six in Bannang Sata and two in Raman, with no injuries reported. Most involved the burning of tyres, surveillance cameras, mobile phone cellular towers and state vehicles, while spikes were scattered on main roads. Security officials advised people not to touch suspicious objects and to report them immediately, and the command condemned the incidents, saying “they did not demonstrate courage, only an intention to hurt people and instill fear.”
