The Polish government has officially confirmed that it has transferred Patriot air defense system missiles to Ukraine. In addition, the government disclosed a full list of all Polish military aid to Ukraine since 2022.
The opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) criticized the current government for providing Patriot missiles to Kyiv. PiS believes that this has weakened Poland's own defense capabilities against a potential Russian attack, writes Notes from Poland.
In response to the criticism, the Polish Ministry of Defense published a full list of weapons given to Ukraine on Saturday, which includes tanks, armored vehicles, artillery systems, drones, and ammunition. The list shows that Poland has donated a total of 16.5 billion zlotys (about 3.8 billion euros) worth of military aid to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.
The vast majority of this aid – 14.9 billion zlotys – was given during the previous (PiS) government's term. During the tenure of the current government, led by Donald Tusk, the amount of donations has been 1.6 billion zlotys.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the decision to give Ukraine some of Poland's ordered modern PAC-3 MSE missiles was made after a thorough military analysis and does not jeopardize Poland's security.
"Our NATO allies confirmed that if we should need these missiles, we will get them back immediately," the minister added. He also accused the previous government of giving away hundreds of tanks and fighting vehicles without obtaining adequate replacements from allies.
