French Parliament Approves Right to Assisted Dying
kolmapäev, 15. juuli 2026
The French Parliament definitively adopted the law on end-of-life care, including the right to assisted dying, on Wednesday, July 15, following a third reading. This solemn vote ratified the text adopted on June 30.
The law passed with a 50-vote majority, with 291 votes in favor and 241 against. While the right to assisted dying is now legal, uncertainties remain regarding the opinion of the Constitutional Council, implementing decrees, and doctors' refusal to apply it.
