Democrats Outraged Over Trump's Resumption of Iran War

Democrats in Congress are voicing their outrage following President Trump's decision to restart the war in Iran. Trump formally notified lawmakers last week that the war had resumed, attempting to legally claim a new 60-day period allowing him to use military action in Iran without congressional approval.
Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) filed a new war powers resolution on Monday, co-sponsored by colleagues, in an effort to rein in the president. Schiff stated on X that they were promised months ago that the war would be over, yet now there's a shift "from a bad U.S.-Iran deal to more strikes, another blockade, and added turmoil that will only drive prices higher." He asserted that any claim by the Trump administration that it has 60 more days to act without Congress has no legal foundation.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer characterized Trump's approach as a "recipe for utter disaster," noting that gas prices remain high, and casualties and costs are increasing. Senator Chris Murphy also highlighted the negative economic impact, stating that "gas prices are spiking again."
Last month, Iran and the U.S. had signed a memorandum of understanding, seemingly ending the conflict while long-term negotiations continued. However, those negotiations have collapsed, leading to Iran resuming attacks on American and oil industry targets in the Persian Gulf, and the U.S. military once again bombing targets within Iran.
