Kushner to visit Israel, Egypt on Gaza plan
The visit aims to push a U.S.-backed ceasefire framework that has stalled over Hamas disarmament, Israeli withdrawal and future control of Gaza.

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and negotiator Jared Kushner will travel to Israel and Egypt next week with Board of Peace officials to advance plans for ending the Gaza conflict.
The trip, reported earlier by Axios, was detailed by an unnamed Board of Peace official in an Associated Press report carried by ABC News. The official said Kushner, Board of Peace high representative Nickolay Mladenov and executive board member Tony Blair, a former British prime minister, would arrive in Israel on Sunday.
After Israel, the group will travel to Cairo, where meetings of a Palestinian technocratic group set to assume control of Gaza under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal have been taking place for several months. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because planning details had not been finalized, said the meetings would show Trump and the board’s determination to “see peace, prosperity and sustainable security emerge” in a demilitarized Gaza where Hamas has ceded control to allow reconstruction.
The visit follows Israeli opposition to a recent Trump-announced deal for Hamas to disarm and for Israel to withdraw its forces from Gaza. Hamas accepted the plan to decommission its weapons, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in recent days that Israel would not withdraw until Hamas has completely disarmed.
The deal had been seen as a potential breakthrough for ending the war in Gaza. It was based on an October ceasefire that ended major military operations and brought about the release of the remaining hostages held in Gaza, but the agreement has stalled on other fronts.
