US Stock Markets Decline Significantly, Tech Stocks Under Selling Pressure
neljapäev, 23. juuli 2026
US stock markets experienced significant losses on Thursday, driven by concerns over rising artificial intelligence costs and increasing oil prices.
The Dow Jones index fell by one percent to 51,704 points, the S&P 500 dropped 1.3 percent to 7405 points, and the Nasdaq technology exchange index lost 2.2 percent, falling to 25,143 points.
Shares of major technology companies were particularly affected. For instance, Alphabet, Google's parent company, saw its stock fall by 6.6 percent despite strong growth in its cloud division, due to announced higher investment expenditures. Tesla shares dropped over 13 percent after reporting a negative free cash flow for the first time in over two years.
The price of Brent crude oil rose to $100 per barrel on Thursday, fueled by ongoing attacks in the Iran war and the escalation of the US-Iranian conflict. The US military conducted another wave of attacks against targets in Iran, marking the twelfth consecutive night of such operations.
In contrast, defense contractor Lockheed Martin stood out with a gain of over 11 percent after raising its 2026 targets.
