Ukraine receives €3.47 billion from EU for drones, missiles, air defence and fighter jets

The European Commission yesterday disbursed €3.47 billion to Ukraine under the defence window of the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan to cover Ukraine’s urgent military needs.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: “With this disbursement of the €90 billion Support Loan, we are helping Ukraine protect its people. We are also bringing our defence industry closer together, combining European industrial scale with Ukrainian innovation. Our drone deal is taking shape. And let today’s disbursement send a clear message: every Russian attack strengthens Ukraine’s determination to be free and our determination to stand by Ukraine for as long as necessary.”
The disbursement includes the first instalment of the drone procurement, as well as funding for additional drones, including long-range jets, missiles and Gripen fighter jets. The aim is to help Ukraine quickly acquire the equipment it needs.
As a country at war, Ukraine needs critical defence products that can be delivered quickly. In the coming weeks, increased support for drones, ammunition, air defence and missiles will be approved and disbursed. For Ukraine, this means faster access to equipment that will help protect its airspace and strengthen its defence capabilities. For Europe, this means continued support for a country whose security is directly linked to Europe's own security.
On 25 June, the Commission disbursed €3.2 billion to Ukraine under the targeted macro-financial assistance programme. The Commission subsequently made two further disbursements under the defence component: €3.9 billion on 30 June 2026 and €1.1 billion on 15 July 2026. In 2026, €28.3 billion will be disbursed to support Ukraine's defence industry.
The support loan for Ukraine consists of €60 billion to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities and industry, and €30 billion in budget support to help maintain the functioning of the state and essential public services and strengthen economic resilience.
