Russian illusionist cycles 12,000 km home from Phuket

A Russian illusionist cycled 12,000 km home from Phuket in 86 days, according to VnExpress International. On Friday residents welcoming him at occupied Crimea Sevastopol's Grafskaya Pier.

The idea came to Pavlov after he finished a season of performances in Thailand. Instead of buying a plane ticket, he spent his remaining money on a used bicycle, a backpack and a raincoat, then set off just three days later.

His route took him through Laos, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Russia. At times, the journey turned dangerous. Pavlov said he became lost in Asian jungles, encountered armed tiger hunters and repeatedly lost consciousness from dehydration.

His ageing bicycle also broke down again and again. Sharp rocks punctured the tyres, leaving him to make repairs with the only tool he carried, a wrench.

"For the first two days, it was just, you know, that enthusiasm - you're feeling so great: 'I'm going to conquer the world.' But by the second or third day, it really starts to take its toll. You realize what you've gotten yourself into, what doors you've opened, and what difficulties you're facing," Pavlov said.

"By the fifth day, I was already texting people: 'Guys, I'm mentally exhausted already.' The hardest part isn't the physical challenge - it's the psychological one."

But strangers repeatedly came to his aid, sharing food and water and offering him somewhere to sleep. Pavlov said those encounters became the most valuable part of the journey.
