NASA astronaut captures powerful hurricane with iPhone

NASA astronaut Anil Menon captured a massive hurricane over the Pacific Ocean from the International Space Station on August 2.

Menon captured the extraordinary sight with his iPhone from the space station’s dome. The photo shows a massive, rotating hurricane over the Pacific Ocean.

While Menon didn’t name the hurricane or its location, it appears to be Super Typhoon Dolphin, the fifth tropical cyclone to reach Category 5 strength in 2026, Space.com reported. It was later classified as a Category 3 storm and is expected to weaken to a Category 1 or 2 storm as it continues west toward the Japanese island of Okinawa.

Space.com notes that even with just a phone camera, astronauts can capture breathtaking photos to share with the world.
