Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on state television Wednesday that interaction with Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is currently “very difficult,” according to The Jerusalem Post.
The report said Mojtaba Khamenei has not made any public appearances since becoming supreme leader. It said he replaced his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in one of the first strikes launched against Iran by the US and Israel.
Pezeshkian’s comments followed a reported phone call earlier Wednesday with Khalil al-Hayya, identified in the report as the head of Hamas’s political bureau.
According to Iranian state media cited in the report, Pezeshkian told al-Hayya that Tehran would support any initiative or decision taken by Palestinian leaders in ongoing indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
