Indian arms sales to Israel may support genocide in Gaza

Amnesty International said in report that India has continued supplying arms-related items to Israel since October 7, 2023, creating a “substantial risk” of complicity in what it called the “ongoing genocide against Palestinians” in Gaza.

The Britain-based rights group’s report said India has “forged a close and profitable partnership with the Israeli defence sector and has become a significant contributor to the supply chains that support Israel’s military operations”.

Amnesty said its investigators analysed 2,596 shipments of weapons, ammunition, parts and components shipped from India to Israel since the start of Israel’s major offensive on Gaza. It said Indian companies supplied at least 390,516 small arms parts for military-grade weapons, 564,970 parts of explosive ordnance, including drone warheads and artillery shell casings, and 298 military vehicle components to Israeli military suppliers.

Al Jazeera said it earlier obtained 91 Indian customs export documents from 2024 under classification code 93069000, which India’s customs book identifies as covering “bombs, grenades”; the documents showed Indian firms exporting weapons components to Israeli arms manufacturers including Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, IMI Systems Limited and MCT Materials.

Agnes Callamard, Amnesty International’s secretary-general, said the report “reveals India’s continuing support to the Israeli military and defence sector despite the genocide in Gaza, which has been broadcast worldwide on an almost daily basis for years”. She said India “manufactures and supplies arms transferred to Israel through its ownership and control over key supplier companies” and had failed to regulate private arms exports to Israel in line with international law and standards.

The International Court of Justice issued provisional measures in 2024 ordering Israel to take action to prevent genocide in Gaza, and Al Jazeera said many rights groups and independent United Nations experts have since called Israel’s actions genocide.

India and Israel have longstanding defence ties; SIPRI data cited by Al Jazeera showed India bought 29 percent of Israel’s arms exports from 2020 to 2025, while Israel supplied 15 percent of India’s arms imports, after Russia and France.
