Rahul Gandhi and Kharge Demand Probe into Ayodhya Temple Donations

Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order an independent investigation into the alleged misappropriation of donations made to the Ayodhya Ram temple.
They stated that lakhs of devotees who contributed their hard-earned money in good faith now feel "betrayed by the theft." Both leaders emphasized that PM Modi's silence on the issue is unacceptable and urged him to ensure accountability and restitution.
In their letter, the opposition leaders wrote that "thousands of crores in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust" have been stolen. They highlighted that while PM Modi announced the formation of the Trust in Parliament as per Supreme Court directions, all its members were appointed by his government. They also pointed out that the Trust members are affiliated with the RSS, VHP, and their affiliates, and that the former general secretary was a close associate of the Prime Minister.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also shared the letter on social media, urging the Prime Minister to break his silence. This development comes nearly a month after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The Uttar Pradesh Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on June 25 after an initial SIT report was submitted on June 23, leading to the arrest and custody of eight individuals.
